We Are The Period Crate

We believe access to period products should be simple and dignified. The Period Crate provides free period products in trusted community spaces across Hull, removing barriers and supporting people when they need it most.

Let's Get To Know Eachother!

Hi, I’m Caitlin, and I started The Period Crate because I wanted to create a practical, community-led solution to a problem that affects people all over the world — and right here in Hull. Period poverty is often seen as something that only happens in less developed countries, but the reality is that many women and people who menstruate in our own community struggle to access basic products.

Charging for period products doesn’t just create inconvenience — it systemically oppresses people, forcing them to miss school, work, or other essential activities simply because they can’t manage their period. I believe that access to period products is a basic human right, and that nobody should have to compromise their dignity, education, or livelihood because of their cycle.

The Period Crate started as a small, simple idea: put free, discreet, accessible period products in trusted community locations so anyone who needs them can take them — no questions asked, no forms, no judgement. It’s important to me because I want to turn awareness into action, reduce stress and shame, and make our community a place where everyone can manage their period safely and confidently.

By working with local organisations and community supporters, we’re bridging gaps in access, building solidarity, and showing that small, thoughtful action can make a big difference. The project is about people, care, and dignity — and creating a world where periods don’t hold anyone back.

  • Compassion & Care - We understand that access to period products can be stressful. Our project is designed to be gentle, supportive, and non-judgemental.

  • Inclusivity - The Period Crate is for all people who menstruate, regardless of background, identity, or circumstance.
